In un’intervista immediatamente successiva alla sua esibizione a Woodstock venne chiesto a Jimi Hendrix cosa provasse a essere il miglior chitarrista del mondo: egli rispose “How should I know? Go ask Rory Gallagher” (“Che ne dovrei sapere io? Andate a chiederlo a Rory Gallagher”).
Se il genio di Hendrix aveva visto tutto questo, non è necessario ribadire oltre la stima e l’ammirazione suscitata da Gallagher nei suoi contemporanei e ancora oggi a quasi venticinque anni di distanza dalla sua scomparsa. Per celebrare quello che sarebbe stato il cinquantesimo anniversario degli inizi della sua carriera il 31 maggio verrà pubblicato “Blues”, un cofanetto che raccoglie per il 90% materiale raro e inedito, che svela l’amore di Rory per il blues durante la sua carriera da solista dal 1971 fino al 1994.
La nuova edizione presenta performance con artisti del calibro di Muddy Waters, Albert King, Jack Bruce, Lonnie Donegan, Chris Barber e sarà disponibile in un singolo CD con 16 tracce, in un doppio LP e come lussuoso set di tre CD a 36 tracce. Tutte le versioni conterranno un ampio opuscolo con immagini inedite e un saggio dello scrittore Jas Obrecht.
