I Rolling Stones “restituiscono” Bitter Sweet Symphony ai Verve

Dopo una querelle durata 20 anni il brano viene restituito a Richard Ashcroft

I Rolling Stones hanno restituito al leader dei Verve, Richard Ashcroft, i diritti della sua canzone “Bitter Sweet Symphony” dopo una battaglia durata oltre venti anni.

Lo stesso cantante ha scritto  “It gives me great pleasure to announce as of last month Mick Jagger and Keith Richards agreed to give me their share of the song ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony. This remarkable and life-affirming turn of events was made possible by a kind and magnanimous gesture from Mick and Keith, who have also agreed that they are happy for the writing credit to exclude their names and all their royalties derived from the song they will now pass to me”.

(Mi rende molto felice annunciare che il mese scorso Mick Jagger e Keith Richards hanno deciso di restituirmi la loro quota del brano “Bitter Sweet Symphony”; questo interessante cambiamento degli eventi è stato reso possibile da una gentile e magnanimo gesto di Mick e Keith, che hanno anche dichiarato che sono felici di escludere i loro nomi dai crediti e che tutte le royalties derivanti dalla canzone passeranno ora a me).

“Bitter Sweet Symphony” fu una hit mondiale nel 1997, e rese i Verve delle superstar; il brano conteneva degli archi campionati (quattro secondi) dalla versione orchestrale di “The Last Time” realizzata da Andrew Loog Oldham, e a causa di un contenzioso legale Ashcroft perse qualsiasi diritto editoriale. Fino ad oggi.
